It was originally intended mainly for fellow planning professionals, but all are welcome to read it. Finding out about it When your local Council receives a planning application they are supposed to notify those neighbours who they think may be affected by it, but this depends on the judgement of planning officers and not everyone who thinks they ought to have been informed gets a letter. Nonetheless, you can object to any planning application, whether or not you have personally received a letter informing you of it. Not only can you see what planning applications have been received, but you can also view and download the details of those applications and can sometimes see what other people have already said about them.

Anyone has the right to see a planning application made to a local authority. Generally, the submission or observation must be made within 5 weeks of the date the local authority receiving the planning application. People who are applying for planning permission must put up a site notice and advertise in a local newspaper that circulates in the area, so you can find out about these applications. Local authorities must prepare weekly lists of planning applications and make them available for inspection in their offices and public libraries for at least 8 weeks.
