Born on October 27, Perry Edward Smith is the youngest of four children. His parents separate when he is about six years old. After his parents divorce Perry and his siblings are forced to live with their alcoholic mother in San Francisco. A few years after living with his mother she abandons Perry, and he is placed in an orphanage where they physically and psychologically abuse him. When Perry is around nine years old he moves to Alaska with his father. While living with his father he is not able to attend school, and instead, is forced to work with his father.

I would argue that personality does not stem from the way we were raised. The idea of nature versus nurture can be applied here due to the fact that someone can be raised in a drug-addicted household and become a drug addict which would come from being nurtured. While many philosophers debate the arguments that human beings or some of the things we do are naturally inborn many believe otherwise. There are spontaneous events that accompany the growth of a child including speech acquisition. Yes, the way we raise a child can affect the way they speak and the way they think.
